Every family helps in some way, and "some way" can be as small as working one concession shift or running the scoreboard at a home game. You don't need experience, and you don't need to take on anything huge.
Why we're volunteer-run
SLVYHA has no paid staff. Coaches, board members, team managers, the people running the clock and the concession stand, all of them are parents and volunteers. That's how we keep registration costs as low as we can.
It also means the season only works when families show up for the little jobs. Pitching in isn't a chore tacked onto hockey; it's part of what makes the whole thing run, and it's how most people end up feeling like part of the group instead of just dropping their kid off.
What's expected
There's no strict hour requirement. Every bit helps keep the season running and costs down for everyone, and getting involved is one of the best ways to feel at home in this community. Joining SLVYHA means joining the whole crew, not just signing your kid up for a season.

Participating in Fundraising
You don't need a title to help keep SLVYHA running. Fundraising is something every family can pitch in on, and it's a big part of how we hold registration costs down for everyone.
Throughout the season there are campaigns and events to get behind, things like the golf tournament, Colorado Gives Day, sponsor drives, and other seasonal fundraisers. Helping can look like showing up to an event, recruiting a sponsor, or spreading the word.

It can lower what you owe
Players can earn discounts on their registration fees by actively participating in fundraising. Because the whole association benefits, every family is encouraged to take part. Check with the Treasurer for current discount information.
USA Hockey Volunteer Membership
Adult volunteers, team managers, and board members sign up as a "Volunteer" member with USA Hockey at no charge (this is separate from the paid registration coaches and players do). You do it once per season, and it gives you the USA Hockey number you'll need to complete your free SafeSport training.
Safesport training
Every volunteer working closely with players goes through USA Hockey's SafeSport training and background check first. It's free, online and there to keep every kid safe.
